Hi, I’m Sarah.

People call me Turbow (yes, that’s my real last name). I’m a white, Jewish, cisgender woman from Brooklyn, New York. I use she/her pronouns.

I have over a decade of experience as a community and political organizer, building power, developing leaders & organizers, consulting, training, and coaching. I’ve worked on issues as diverse as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, climate change, and housing justice. In 2016, I started a mass training program to teach basic organizing skills to those newly enraged and activated by Trump’s election. In 2022, I graduated with my MSW from the Smith College School for Social Work, with the intention of bringing the tools and insights of psychodynamic therapy into organizing work. I am a continual student of anti-racism and strive to bring an anti-oppressive lens to my organizing and clinical work. You can find out more about my approach here. Here’s my LinkedIn.

I like being in and learning about nature, reading in coffee shops, watching British murder mysteries, wearing patterned jumpsuits, thinking about organizing & therapy, and tending to my relationships with friends, family, and community. I currently live in Brattleboro, Vermont.

I Get by with a Little Help from my Friends

  • Here are a few people whose ideas have been deeply agitational to me:

  • Thanks to Nomi Ellenson (@nomifoto) for the headshots, Margaret Tung for support on website design, and to thought-partners in this work (including but not limited to Daniel, Ben, Catie, Jacob, Vera, Laura, Mariel, Meg, Shakiya, Mimi, Amy, Sadie, Daniel & Reineke)

  • Liza Smith gently & firmly taught me important lessons about popular education, training, and joy. May her memory be a blessing.
